Halo 2 Vista Game review. August 26, 2010 James I've been a fan of the Halo saga since it first hits the shelves.I have Halo CE,Halo 2,Halo 3,Halo ODST and preordering Halo Reach.I've not received Halo 2 Vista yet as I just bought it little over an hour ago.I have great expectations on this to be a truly great game. However, compared to other games on the market it really falls on aspects of almost everything.Although,I'm sure If you have played through Halo 2,the story Is Halo 2's War Machine. With the downfall of Xbox LIVE on the original Xbox, many Gamers including myself have decided to continue our multiplayer experience on Halo 2.That has led us to buying Halo 2 on the PC.I have to say that if Multiplayer is the same on the PC,which I hope it is could make this game bounce back. With the downfall of age Halo 2 will have to throw everything It's got to get back on the hottest games list.Needless to say,Halo 2 is without question one of the most successful Games in History.I'm sure it will smash It's way back to the top again.
ITS BRILLIANT! August 26, 2010 Legit FX This is one of my most loved games I have. I highly recomended to buy it for any gamers looking to have a laugh!
Good game, but many bugs to iron! July 30, 2010 Griesmayer (Wien, Österreich) Halo 2 is Bungie's 2004 sequel to the highly successful Halo, which was ported to the PC in 2003, two years later after its initial xbox release. Continuing the story of the Master Chief who travels to Earth to defend the planet from a Covenant invasion, some of the key new features of Halo 2 over its predecessor include dual wielding, a host of new weapons, vehicles and enemies, as well as the ability to play as a Covenant Elite.
Unlike its predecessor, which was easy to install and fun to play, Halo 2 requires not only a Games for Windows Live account (can be your free Windows Live/MSN account) and installation of the GFWL software, but is also stubborn enough to refuse to run on any operating system older than Windows Vista. Of course, there is a way to get the game working on Windows XP, but that will not be mentioned in this review. Instead, I will hereby focus on the new set of problems the games comes with, when installed on machines running Windows 7.
As a Windows 7 user from almost the day it was released, the transition of Halo 2 from my previous Vista OS had worked flawlessly. Though I don't play the game often, I did give it a try now and then and so far, it worked fine on Windows 7 64-Bit Home Premium. But all of a sudden, it stopped working. I started to get a Windows-Live error message that mentioned something about a server being launched from my computer, thus hindering the game from launching properly. After long hours of web searching, this is the solution to get your Halo 2 working on Windows 7 again:
Run Command Prompt from the Accessories menu(rught click and run as Administrator):
Type: net stop cryptsvc
and hit enter. You will receive a message stating that the service was stopped.
Navigate to your LocalDrive:/Windows/System32 and rename the "catroot2" folder to "cr2old" [MAKE BACKUPS FIRST]
Once it is renamed, go back to command prompt and run this command: net start cryptsvc which will restart the Cryptographic Services:
The above steps may work, however I have noticed that if it does when you exit to the desktop then try to relaunch or reboot the PC the error may come back. If this is true then the steps below have been so far successful.
1. Delete all the tmp*.cat files (files beginning with tmpSOMETHING.cat) in the following folders (use the search option on the top right corner of the screen to find and delete the files):
%systemroot%\system32\CatRoot\{127D0A1D-4EF2-11D1-8608-00C04FC295EE} (there may be no files in this folder if that's the case then only worry about the next folder)
%systemroot%\system32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE} (if no items are found then go to the next step)
2. Delete all the kb*.cat files (files beginning with kbSOMETHING.cat) in the following folders (use the search option on the top right corner of the screen to find and delete the files):
%systemroot%\System32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE} (A pop up will ask that you need admin rights to delete, accept and delete, you may notice that they were deleted however still appear, if you refresh the screen they will be gone)
%systemroot%\System32\CatRoot\{127D0A1D-4EF2-11D1-8608-00C04FC295EE} (again skip if there is no files in the folders)
3. Delete all the oem*.* files from the %systemroot%\inf folder. [MAKE BACKUPS FIRST] (again use the search option on the top right hand corner of the screen to find and delete the files)
4. At the command prompt (Run as Administrator), type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command.
A) net stop cryptsvc
B) Next, Navigate to your LocalDrive:/Windows/System32 and delete the renamed Catroot2 folder we made previously and keep the "Catroot2" file
C) ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 oldcatroot2
D) net start cryptsvc
Exit Command Prompt
5. Run Halo 2
This should run successfully, even after exiting and re-launching halo 2 as well as after a reboot.
All in all, Halo 2 does have some unique new features, for example being the only PC game in existence that uses the unique tray-and-play feature, which lets you play the game while it is installing on your computer, but released as late as 2007, the graphics are a letdown and the gameplay, while not bad, isn't top notch either. A three, out of five stars.
Advice how to solve the Live error to initiate problem July 14, 2010 PIOSOL First of all I have to say, that it is really fun to play Halo 2!
Great story telling and the new features, like using two guns simultaneously are also a great benefit of this game.
But unfortunately a lot of people have problems to play Halo 2 on Windows vista or Windows 7.
I also had the problem and it took me several days to find the solution in the internet. Here now the guide how to fix Halo 2 if you also experience the Halo Live error to initiate problem.
First install Halo 2 on your computer. I installed it on Windows 7 64 bit without problems.
By starting the game a box popped up and told me, that halo 2 can not start because of a failure to initiate the Live server...
Just click ok to get back to your desktop.
Now enter your windows folder and enter the inf folder.
Now mark all oem files (oem.inf and oem.pnf files) cut them out and put them in a newly created folder on your desktop
Now start Halo 2 and you will see, that it starts.
Close Halo 2 again.
Now comes the working part.
You have to figure out which of the oem files is responsible for the error.
In my cases I allways put ten of the oem files at once back to the C:/windows/inf folder and start again halo 2 to check if it is still working.
Do this as long as you find the oem file or files which are responsible for the error.
In my case the oem94.inf and oem95.inf caused the error.
The oem files which are causing the error I stored in a separate folder for the case the system my need them sometime in the future.
Now I wish you fun with your Halo 2 Game!
Halo 2 - PC May 11, 2010 Christopher Adair (Southampton, UK) Really good, been waiting for it to come out on PC and here it is. Not disappointed.
