DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!

I got very excited when I saw the title, thinking the game would be based on Avalon Hill's game of the same name. How wrong I was. This game is a pathetic attempt to cash in on the title without doing any original work at all. The game is basically a copy of Soldiers at War. Surprisingly, the game is not nearly as good as the original(1997),which is a fun small scale combat game.

The game (if you can call it that) is full of glitches which will drive you insane. Even when it does play, it's so clumsy and unrealistic, I would be surprised if anyone could stick with it for longer than 15 minutes...

I PLAYED THE NORMANDY part of squad leader but kept getting pinned down by enemy fire.Squad leader could have been a good game but as with a lot of games it was hard to complete a mission. The graphics are good and I was dismayed by poor reviews so I swapped it medal of honor is better but I thought squad leader should be a better wargame like advanced squad leader.

2 out of 5 stars This isn't Squad Leader!   January 14, 2001

I have no axe to grind other than to say if you bought this believing it to be a computerised version of Avalon Hill's Squad Leader/ASL classic then you are as much a mug as I was. If it had been as good as X-COM (remember that?) then I could have lived with it. The problem is that the game just dumps me out with monotonous regularity. I have been unable to get anywhere. Sure, it looks ok. Sure the front end makes you feel that your choices will make a difference but who knows whether they do? I haven't completed a scenario yet! The other bug bear is the game interface. It is not exactly intuitive!

Conclusion? Not as good as it should have been. Please, someone give me the REAL Squad Leader!

This game is outstanding! Feel the tensness as you crawl up the hill to your target: "Jenkins, keep your head down"Shouted sarge But he didn't listen. BOOM! His head was disconnected from his body. Then it rolled away the hill. Sarge cursed under his breath. "Move Lads! Move!" He shouted. Another two men went down to German Machinegun fire. Tom got to the top first but came down with bullet holes drilled into him. Then sarge threw a grenade up and over. BANG! "Alright lets go!" He shouted. They ran like they were possesd and killed all Germans in the way.

"Sir we have succesfully taken our objective" said sarge to the general down the wireless.

This game is a must have for all World War Two fans. This my freinds is the fun of War!
