Having been a massive fan of the Lord of the Rings saga, so much so I was often called a nerd and weirdo, the sings of a true fan, I was mightely impressed with the 2004 Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth. To me it entitled everything good about an RTS game; the castle and options for all factions, the soundtrack, the storyline allowing freedom of battlegrounds. The only thing lacking was the graphics, and lets face it you can hardly say that the graphics are poor considering when it was made compared to modern graphics. However I bought the second edition of Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth with great anticipation of a far superior game. I was extremely disappointed. Bearing in ming it is down to personal taste. Despite this I do not find the game very challenging, nor do I see the point in the campaign. The campaign itself stems away from the plot of Lord of the Rings and instead of improving upon battles I believe they have hindered the game. Some features are quite good ideas; the ability to extend you castle boundries is a good feature. But I believe that if EA had kept to the original 2004 version with a few improvements; the wall expansion feature, the factions options and the ability to facilitate morte strucutres and command on the map to name a few simple improvements, the game could have been so much more. As I said, I was disappointed and was not much pleased with the WitchKing expansion in the vain hopes that it would be an improvement upon a disappointment. I hope that you find this review to some use and if you do decide to purchase this game then I hope you enjoy it far more than myself.
Very Good Game. February 20, 2010 Kt Moris (UK) The Rise of the Witch-King is a refreshing new take on the Battle for Middle Earth series, and plays almost like an entirely new game. There are more improvements in the AI** so the enemy computer now has alot more tactics making this game more enjoyable and every battle different from the last. For some, it will be a major improvement over the last game, and for others it will be too much of a change from the original. Despite the balance issues, I have a hard time taking myself away from it and it has a strangely addicting pull to it. I would recommend this game to anyone who was a great fan of the original and is looking for a greater change to gameplay than most other expansions offer.

good enough for my kid to play with but could have developed better with the graphic as well as missions, let say little capital was put in this game to develop it.
you couldn't give it to me for free... April 22, 2008 A. Carpenter 0 out of 25 found this review helpful
My god! I thought Battle for Middle Earth II was bad, but it was sheer brilliance compared to this! The first thing I noticed was how the witch king doesn't sound remotley like the one from the film & now the characters are more like something from a poor RTS clone of Warcraft.
In the end, I just couldn't stand to play it. I was in love with the first game, but EA just proved that they're sole motivation here was a quick cash grab.
Avoid like the plague!
