I bought the collectors edition, not the gold edition, why this has turned up for my review beats me, read my review for the collectors edition.

Strangely this game is just an updated version of Age Of Wonders II with better graphics, a few extra features and some different units and creatures. But it is essentially the same game which is bizarre as its a totally different series and as far as im aware was developed by a different company. Hence why ive knocked 1 star off as obviously i was expecting a totally different game and was taken aback when i installed it and started playing. But it is no worse for that as Age Of Wonders was a good game in its day anyway, and the extra stuff improve it no end, and this version is perfect including both of the expansion games and latest patches plus a bonus DVD with loads of fan and behind the scenes stuff. Also im running this game perfectly on my laptop with Vista and just an integrated Intel graphics card. If you like turn based strategy especially with a fantasy theme then this will be right up your street.

This edition of Heroes V brings the franchise truly back to its roots with lots of different types of Heroes including all the favorites from the older games and a vast choice of creatures and upgrades. The game scores highly here as you do not only have a multiple choice of upgrades but they are also transferable allowing you to revert to the other type if needed. There are also many pre-generated maps but most importantly of all is the random map generator that as with the earlier games makes it almost infinitely repayable. The combat system has been brought to another level with the wait option and initiative now allows many more actions for very fast creatures. The battle screen has also been improved with a much greater variety of settings.
All in all playing this game takes me back to how it felt playing the earlier Heroes games but with much better graphics and an improved all round experience and environment.
