A redesigned graphics engine displays Total Wars signature 10,000 man battles in unparalleled detail, making Medieval II: Total War the most glorious looking RTS game of all time. Varied terrain and individual faces, armour and combat animations make battles more visceral than ever before.

However you must also build and manage your kingdom, balancing the needs of your economy, military and population happiness.

Experience religious fervour as you contend with the whims of the Papacy and the feared Inquisitors eager to quash heresy. Send your men to fight in The Crusades or wage Jihad as one of the great Muslim nations.

3 out of 5 stars Great for the online player, shame that the AI is a dodo!   February 6, 2010

Basically, if you like playing online against humans, get this game for sure.
If you want to play against the computer in campaigns, be prepared to get bored. IT IS FAR TOO EASY (yes, I only play on the hardest settings). Don't get me wrong, I understand just how hard it must be to program real strategic intelligence into a game. All the same, the opponents have real strategic suicidal tendencies.
1. The computer can't organise a proper siege against you for its robotic life. Its pathetic.
2. It has an infuriating habit of leaving its cities and castles almost undefended, while it has big armies sitting just out of range to rescue them when you strike.
3. Its armies will meander about aimlessly, often moving in pieces rather than single blocks, making them far easier to deafeat.
4. The main issue with this game is that it gets easier as you go on: Once you pass a certain point in size, you become unstoppable. If there was some element in the game that made the other factions unite against you as you grew, this could be counter-balanced, but as it is, they carry on squabbling as you steamroller them.
5. The oh - so scary hordes that come later on in the game are a brainless joke. Just don't face them in the open.

Overall, it is just really really hard to program a machine to actually think, which is what is required for this game to be a challange. Again, if you like online battles, this game is ace.

5 out of 5 stars Addictive   January 31, 2010

I have never played The Total War game before and I realy like it. You buy 1 game and you'll get 5 games, because Kingdom extention contains 4 separate games. For strategy fanatic it will be very good fun, because you can play on 2 platforms, stategic or/and tactic. I realy recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Probably the best strategy game in the world?   November 20, 2009

I bought this package in Jan 09 and 10 months later I'm still hooked!!!
Best things about it:
Fantastic Graphics
Superb battles
Being able to play Wales and giving the English a pasting!

Not so good things:
Diplomacy is very limited and even pointless when playing on 'very hard' as everyone just wants a fight - but I suppose it is 'Total War'
Need to defrag computer regularly as it starts to run slow and sometimes freezes during battles (particularly when zooming in to see the death throes of a general)
Staying up past 1am every night because I just had to fight that last battle and then some!

Factions I've played:
Holy Roman Empire (Main Game) - Gradually everyone wants a piece of you - even the Pope!
Wales - always managed to 'save' Wales from the English except on 'Very Hard' Love the use of Welsh language for the units Saethwyr, Rhyfelwyr etc
Byzantine - too easy even on 'very hard' Fantastic Flame throwers though!
Aztec - Destroyed New Spain and then got battered by the Mayans - some Ally they turned out to be! Loved the Indian head dresses etc.
Lithuania - Stayed as Pagan on very hard. Wow what a struggle! Eventually managed to destroy the Teutonic Order but then Denmark and Novgorod pincered me and I ran out of turns. Watch out for the D'vor archers of Novgorod! Disapponted the Mongols weren't a bit tougher.
Scotland (Main Game)- Current game Captured the British Isles and a bit of France but the Pope despises us and keeps telling me to stop attacking Spain Denmark England even though they keep declaring war on me!

More , more, gimme more!

Medieval II Total War - Gold Edition

Lots of game for your money, perhaps too much! I thoroughly enjoyed its predecessor Rome Total War, so it was a natural step to take to see what this one was like on my computer running Pentium IV at 3.4Ghz.

There is the same sort of layout, map modes and battle modes, but for some reason this game ran a lot slower, I didn't really think the graphics were quite as good and in the end I uninstalled the lot, and went back to `Total War', perhaps I need a better graphics card with newer computer!

I played with this for About a week, got totally infuriated by its slowness, so my advice is if you have a computer slower than Pentium IV at 3.4Ghz. give it a miss, perhaps I didn't really give it a good run but I was asked for an opinion and this is it!
