Rome Total War Storm clouds gather over Europe, Asia and North Africa as mighty armies march forward in Rome: Total War. Command the greatest forces of the ancient world, including the Roman Legions, Carthage and Gaul; lay siege to civilisations using powerful war engines; and decimate your enemies using special units like ferocious war dogs, armoured elephants or Scythed chariots. In Rome: Total War the most epic, cinematic real-time 3D battles ever seen in a game come to life with awe-inspiring graphics. Vast armies are led by brilliant generals such as Hannibal, leader of the Carthaginians and Julius Caesar, Rome's greatest general and leader. The mightiest armies and the most brilliant commanders of ancient times clash in an epic war game only Total War can create. Alexander An all new campaign map extends the Rome: Total War experience further Eastward than ever before, taking you into Macedonia and the Persian Empire. A host of new content includes four new factions and 60 all new units such as Alexander's Phalangists. Six new historical battles offer you the chance to experience Alexander's key clashes and a redesigned campaign game forces you to press ever onward or risk failing to match Alexander's ferocious pace of conquest. Barbarian A shadow falls across the Roman world. It is 363 AD and the last Emperor of the unified Rome is dead. His successors now rule a divided Empire. Rome Total War July 24, 2010 Pensive The graphics are detailed and realistic, the game is very easy to understand and offers a wide variety of options so that each game remains interesting. Thus, even if you are an accomplished player each game offers a unique experience.
Cool June 27, 2010 Ben I played this at my freinds and it is the best game ever. It brings the fun to life and even adults can play this. Buy, buy, buy no matter how hight the price!
Addictive campaigns, natioanlities vary greatly March 23, 2010 K. Ng (uk) Nationalities now have far greater variety of troop types and recruitment routes and limits at different cities. So you'll learn not to use similar imperial strategy when campaigning with different nations.
I wish there is a manual or a pdf version to warn me of this.
Also unlike in other periods of Total War, in battle mode it's impossible to micro-manage the deployment to create your own battle formation within a group. It's best to stick with what the computer's prepared for you, and don't try to be too clever. Bravey and timing, not brains and prudence, are what's called for. This makes it relatively like ancient period wargaming.
No crashes, nor programming flaws, nor AI problems experienced. This tried and tested game is a must for any interested gamers reading this.
Rome TOTAL REALISM - a new lease of life March 8, 2010 Grev (Brighton) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Anyone who owns or is buying this game should immediately download the patches for Rome Total Realism, a free mod which completely rejigs this game - though take note, NOT the two expansion packs also included here - for the better.
While it doesn't improve the graphics it makes the units and factions much more historically accurate (no more made up Roman SAS style units!), utterly rejuvenating this now old game. Never mind that it doesn't update the expansion packs (Alexander is notoriously hard, not very realistic and not much fun) I never thought I'd play Rome again after Medieval II came out years ago, but I'm having great fun replaying it all over again in a much better version. Download that mod!
Good Solid game from Total War December 15, 2009 Mj Champion (Kent, England) I bought this having just bought an external Dvd drive for my Packard Bell Dot MA netbook. I have always loved the Total War series and this was no exception. Only bad point I can say is that the Alexander Expansion pack is terrible. Barbarian Invasion however is fantastic. Overall i was well pleased with this, much better than Empire Total War which I did not like at all.
