Product Description
Men of War takes place in Europe during the height of World War II, the story unfolding across three different campaigns played out through the eyes of Soviet, Allied and German soldiers. The main Soviet campaign sees two student comrades, Smirnov and Kuznetzov, join the army and quickly become brothers in arms as they rise through the ranks and experience the rigours of war. The whole story unfolds across three campaigns, with five German and five Allied missions completing the trilogy, each telling a different story of WWII spanning across Russia, Africa, Italy and the Pacific. In addition to the in-depth single-player experience, Men of War also unleashes all new multiplayer maps along with new Capture The Flag and High-Value Cargo modes, all faithfully recreated with stunning graphics and refined AI. - Three evolving storylines from Soviet, Allied and German sides

Finally something 4 hardcore strategy gamers!!! April 27, 2010 CzaD (UK) If you're looking for a game that will give you a lot of fun and a great deal of challenge, Men of War is your game. If you're looking for a game that looks beautiful and bore you to death, buy Napoleon Total War. In NTW, battles are tooo easy: you can win them without making a single click, even if you are outnumbered. MoW is quite the opposite. The game is not easy at all and, perhaps, not for kids who don't have the patience and mental skills (like concentration and the ability to plan ahead). MoW battles/missions are hard, coz you have a limited number of soldiers, limited ammo, you are required to plan your moves carefully by studying the map and enemy forces and you have to execute your plan well coz your mistakes can be extremely costly.
I loved games like Commandos or Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive, and I love MoW.
Features that deserve special merit:
- the AI soldiers behaviour: they retreat when they think they are losing and they hide behind a cover when under heavy suppressing fire;
- nice graphics; everything is destructible, even when you shoot at corpses the blood still splashes around;
- you can use vast WW2 arsenal with very realistic penetration values (tiger tanks are awesome);
- interesting, varied missions: some offensive, some defensive and some behind the enemy lines; each mission gives you plenty of options of how you want to achieve it;
- big battles;
- mod support, you can active or deactive your fav mods in the game menu.
To sum up, the game is not for everyone, but the hardcore strategy gamers should be pleased.
EDIT: Multiplayer Experience.
MP can be insanely good if you manage to play the game online. It is extremely fun and challenging. But be warned!!! MP is just one BIG MESS due to:
1. Too many patches released within a short period of time. Not all of players play the same version of MP.
2. Incompatibility of Russian patches and international patches. Since about 80% of players use the Russian patches you get kicked from the game quiet often.
3. Lack of information or download links for the newest patches on the official men of war website.
4. Lack of professional tech support for the international community. You just have to rely on the community to get help.
Bestway ,the main company behind Men of War, is really bad at dealing with the international community. Well, the fact that their website doesn't have an English-speaking forum already says a lot.
On top of that, you might be put off by the chat in the lobby which is about 80% in Russian so you may not know what is going on. Plus I have never seen players spam the chat so much. (It is funny how the lobby looks different when Russians go to sleep and the western community starts playing the game.)
Would I still give 5 stars to the game? Well, I managed to sort out the MP issues and I am extremely enjoying the online matches, but I doubt it deserves a perfect score due to the HUGE MP MESS.

Awesome game. If you liked any WW2 RTS in the past then take note.
It is comparable to Soldiers Heroes of WW2 and whilst its not quite as polished as Company of heroes, it also doesnt have that arcade/console-like feel to it either. There are occasional moments when you get the feeling there is a rigid scripting engine in the background, but thats just a minor drawback. The beauty of this game is in its depth and attention to detail. The game itself allows you to approach your objective with maximum amount of micro management if you want to, i spend hours kitting my troops out with the most awesome german weaponry on almost every mission. In some ways it has that RPG feel to it because it allows you a lot of inventory for each unit. My riflemen almost always end up being upgraded to snipers, MP44 assault troops or MG42 gunners. AI is ok in battles, you have control over your troops to inhibit them from opening fire, returning fire, fire at will.. but i think most folks who really get on with this game will manage at detail level.
Unlike COH, Some of the missions are absolutely brilliant and will entertain you for a long time, many will take you many attempts to figure out how to accomplish the objective. Major assault missions can be really really full on with shells exploding and tracer flying all over the battlefield with a good level of NPC activity to make it feel on a large scale. Much larger than any other RTS ive played. Explosions and other ordanance seems to have good physics with good visuals and sound effects.
People only used to console type games, i think you might not like it, but for pc gamers who appreciate the attention to detail, depth and better graphics.... if you like WW2 RTS, then its an absolute must purchase.
Just ensure you have a beefy rig as the bigger battlefield missions have thousands of things going on and if ur rig isnt up to the task, then i think you might be punished with low frame rates.
Just played through this and the expansion "red tide" with Core-i7 Extreme 975, rampage extreme II mobo & 2 x Radeon 5970 on highest settings incl vsync on a 24" monitor @ 1920x1200, it is fluid all the way. Not a good test. So i Re-Ran through the big missions on same monitor (to give a more balanced review) and settings with a QX9770, rampage formula mobo and a single 4870X2 and was a complete breeze with no difference. Radeon 5850 or 5870 will cope no problems, i think equivalent nvidia cards will be flying too. I think a 9800GTX or 8800GTX or ultra nvidia card may be ok, Lower than 4870 radeons or nvidia cards may see frame rate drops in the heavy battlefield missions, they are big and full of activity. My friend reports that it also flies on a QX9550, maximus mobo and a single 4870.
FYI "Red Tide" expansion is a little tougher, almost as enjoyable, but the 'rigid scripting' seems to be a little more evident.. in any case.. if you buy this.. you will want more and Red Tide is a good buy also, but wont quite deliver as much enjoyment as the original.
I now have quite a bit of making up to the gf to do as ive been rather absent in recent weeks :S

Were do i start, this game as everything its great so many missions. If your not used to this type of game give it time it'll grow on you and if you love WW2 RTS its up there with World in Conflict and Company of Heroes. Ive only played three missions as the Russians but you can play as German, Allies and theres bonus stuff, allso theres an editor so you can design your own. As you can see not very good at writing reviews but had to because this game is so good. Buy it you won't be disapointed.
Don't ignore this game! November 28, 2009 Pavlov (Birmingham UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Bought this game based on the reviews here as I was not aware of it or it's prequels. Thanks guys!
This is an awesome game. I'm still learning it`s secrets. You'll get out what you put in so if you have a limited attention span or prefer a shallow learning curve you might not like it. But, get into it and you'll have hours of fun. Easily as good as COH ( in a different way ) and I'm a COH anorak.
