Product Description

Dawn of War II ushers in a new chapter in the acclaimed RTS series - taking players to the brutal frontlines of war to lead an elite strike force on a mission to save the galaxy.

It's the 41st Millennium in the Sub-Sector Aurelia - a cluster of worlds on the edge of the Galaxy - where a battle of epic proportions is about to commence. Ancient races will clash across the planets that dot this section of space, battling for the greatest of stakes - not only the claim to the land and its bounty - but the fate of each race.

With a focus on fast-action RTS gameplay, Dawn of War II brings to life the science fiction universe of Warhammer 40,000 like never before. Experience the intimate brutality of battle as you play through your chosen race's epic campaign. Clash with enemies on battlefields ablaze with visceral melee and ranged combat. Lead and develop your squads from raw recruits into the most battle hardened veterans in the Galaxy.

  • Brutal Frontline Action & Tactics: Get straight into the action and experience intense melee and devastating ranged combat. Use vicious melee sync-kills to obliterate your enemies. Outsmart your opponents using dynamic and destructible environments to suppress, flank and destroy your foes.
  • Non-Linear Single Player Campaign: Command an elite strike force, choosing from a variety of playable races and play through that race's unique storyline, developing the skills and abilities of your squads and commander as you progress through the game.
  • Co-Op Multiplayer: Play through the entire single-player campaign cooperatively with a friend, at any point in the game, anytime.
  • Next Generation RTS Engine: Utilising Relic's proprietary Essence Engine 2.0 to deliver cinematic visuals, detailed graphics and special effects.

4 out of 5 stars Good-ish!   June 28, 2010
SteveP (bedfordshire, UK)
Dawn of War 1 was my first real game I found great to play, I enjoyed many hours of fun trying to outwit my AI opponents. So I automatically assumed that DOW II would be even better! However, unfortunately I was wrong, DOW II is good but not quite as good as I expected. There is now far to much focus on playing on line. Some people will obviously love this, but not me. I liked the skirmish mode in DOW I in which I could fight against my own computer based opponents. The other niggle is the varstly increased graphic presentation, I have a fairly good laptop (Acer Aspire 8930) but I have had to reduce the games graphics just to allow the game to run smoothly, I did not expect my machine to struggle so much.

2 out of 5 stars Dawn of war 2 install   June 9, 2010
Mr. J. Rose
I only bought this game two days ago and i'm still installing it. I have a reasonably fast computer with high RAM and graphics but it took over 5 hours to install. I had to set up two accounts which was really infuriating because when I left it overnight it had stopped at like 30%, asking to sign in for steam. After a whole day of waiting for it to install (half the time the timer going up!) it finally finished installing. But as I went to play it I didn't even get to the menu screen with an error popping up about an error with steam. I went onto the troubleshooting page (which was really helpful). But I had to reinstall steam! I uninstalled it but instead of installing just steam it started again! I am currently at 2 hours 15 minutes with the time going up in 2 minute jumps.

I have not even got into the game but I am already starting to hate it.
NOT FOR THE IMPATIENT!

1 out of 5 stars Seriously disapointing.   April 11, 2010

Honestly, I can't understand what all the fuss is about with this game. It is not tactical or interesting in any way whatsoever. I LOVED Dawn of War I, but this one fails to deliver anything like the same interest factor. The gameplay consists basically of moving your troops slowly to an area of the battlefield, and waiting for them to shoot the enemies in the area. You might need to make a tactical retreat, use some wargear items, or move some troops from one area of the screen to another. But that is literally as interesting as it gets. If you like a challenging, interesting, tactical PC game, don't buy this one.

5 out of 5 stars Dawn of War II Review   April 3, 2010
Mr. Scott A. Berryman (Preston, Lancs. UK)
Firstly, this is coming from a fan of Warhammer 40K.

For me, seeing the 40K universe come to life is just amazing. The gameplay on DoW II is different from it's predecessors in that it's much more cover orientated. It plays very much like Company of Heroes in the sense that you move your squads behind cover to afford them some protection. The combat is very satisfying, hearing the sound of bolt rounds being fired is amazing. The level of fire that you can lay down is astronomical. It plays smoothly and is easy to control which leads to a very enjoyable game.

The character building element is also rather good, it allows you to choose weapon loadouts, armour and accesories. It works well and allows you to upgrade your squads for the upcoming fight. For instance I will choose to give Tarkus a flamer before I fight Tyranids. The characters themselves are interesting each with their own backgrounds, beliefs and ideals which become apparent during the game.

Overall I think that Dawn of War II is a fantastic portrait on the 40K world. Brilliant for fans whether they play Space Marines or not, and still fun for those who don't. If you enjoy games like these; especially Company of Heroes; or are a Warhammer fan. The this game is a must.

So buy it, and fight for the immortal God Emperor.

4 out of 5 stars Another fine game   March 22, 2010
G. Siders (UK)
I got this game ages ago, but never had the time to review it. Well here it is:
I got this game one day before release, from Amazon, so it wouldn't work. The next day it worked fine. Having both Steam and windows Live is annoying. But Windows Live seems pointless, at least with steam you can play the game without the disk.

The gameplay is first class. It is a tactical RTs/RPG mix. The skirmish is rubbish, because I like to build bases, then a huge army. But the campaign, great. Story line is very good, graphics are nice. the AI is a bit rubbish, but then its still harder then most make it out to be. The boss battles are hard.

The equipment is very good, something I have been waiting for in a decent RTS for a while, and it all works together.

Overall, this is a great game, in-fitting with the Warhammer 40,000 universe, and worth picking up. Its must!
