5 out of 5 stars A taste of the old OP Flash   July 31, 2010
Jules (England)
So many reviews of this game, so that allows me to keep this short and brief. Having played and loved the original Operation Falshpoint which this game is based on, it was sad to see the DEV's from that game break away from what was cosy & natural setup for us gamers, and which left us with 2 different game titles trying to carry on from that original game. we had ARMA(armed assault) made by the DEV's of the orginal who lost the rights to the original title & then Operation Flashpoint makde by the company the DEV's used to work for.

Having played both now, to suck it and see so to speak, i found the following imo. ARMA is in my eyes the truest representation to the original OP Flash game, with a huge battleground & the core game mechanics all there with some new updates. Operaton Flashpoint(dragon rising) now, sure it has the title & its a nice enough game, but thats about it, for me the new Operation Flashpoint game now resembles games like Call of Duty or Modern Warfare, with its new game mechanics.

So in conclusion, if you want to relive the old days of the great Operation Flashpoint game, play ARMA , if you want another run of the mill Call of Duty like shootem up, then Op Flash Dragon Rising will be more your cup of tea. Each to they're own, but for me in future i will be looking for the game without the Operation Flashpoint in the title, ARMA all the way. Reccomended.

3 out of 5 stars Realistic, but not much else   May 29, 2010

I wish I could review this better, however having played it I feel that much is sacrificed for the sake of realism. The game is realistic, have no mistakes there, but the gameplay is buggy, online modes have huge lag even with 10MBps connection and the creators have added ridiculous tiny factors which, instead of enhancing realism, inhibit it. For instance, the way the scenery blurs when you move or look around quickly, while sounding like a fine idea on paper, becomes very annoying, very quickly, especially when you realise it's completely unnecessary: when our eye sees something moving quickly, even on a screen, it appears blurry anyway. This is simply one needless tweak amongst countless others which quickly dampen the awe of the massive map and realistic tactics and gameplay.
The AI on the other hand, is very realistic and other things like more sophisticated wounding and medic systems than other games are good enough, but all of this is ruined by the simply awful, inaccessible and unnatural control scheme, all of which combine to make playing ARMA II more of a chore than a fun experience. If you want realism and nothing else, buy this, if not consider one of the multitude of other war games out there. The only reason I haven't returned this is the hope that the Project Reality mod for Arma II might prove to be a better game; to be honest they managed to make Battlefield 2 a better experience than a professional game design company like Bohemia did with Arma.

2 out of 5 stars Buggy   May 16, 2010

It looks great 'on paper' - it's only when you start struggling through that the bugs appear. Search the internet for reviews before you commit; I wish I had as my copy of ARMA II has become assigned to the 'cupboard of redundancy' in the back office.

4 out of 5 stars Amazing   May 9, 2010

Without a doubt the best game I've ever played.
The dimensions are just so awesome, when flying in a plane you're like "wow, I could be down there!"..
It's so huge, the graphics are amazing, so is the entire engine.
Though, it's not optimized that good..
I had to make my game run on 2 out of my 4 cores, so it wouldn't lag.. Which I felt weird about..
Though it's a lot of fun, and the multiplayer part with the mission editer etc is just so huge..
Only your imagination sets borders in this.

3 out of 5 stars A good game but to complex for casual gamers   May 1, 2010
Mr. S. Rice (UK)
I really really want to like this game but find the learning curve to steep. I seem to spent more time going through menus and reasigning the keys than shooting guns. I played for about 5 hours and managed to complete a few of the missions which were fun but just couldn't make any headway into the tactical side of the game. I think there's a great game in there somewhere but it's just too fiddely for me.
