| Customer Reviews: The Command and Conquer Saga June 25, 2010 Ashley J. Richardson (UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
To start with it seems necessary to clarify that what you get in the command and conquer saga is simply the discs and manuals for The First Decade and Tiberium Wars in the same box. For all intensive purposes this copy of The First Decade is no different from that brought alone, the exception being that due to its later release date it lacks the need for patches.
All the games on The First Decade disc will run on vista(32bit) without the need for original game discs, or too much mucking around. If played normally on vista, Tiberium Sun and Red Alert 2 will suffer from errors on start-up and fail to run, while C&C, Red alert, and Generals will run fine. This is rectified by running the program as an administrator, after which all games run with no problems.
As Tiberium Wars is probably the best game in the command and conquer series, it in combination with the first decade represents incredible value. The only thing that could make it any better would be the inclusion of the Kane's Wrath expansion. As for the older games, it would be redundant to reiterate the fame of the C&C franchise. Suffice to say that while C&C and Red Alert are now very dated, and Renegade is still the same abomination it was on its release, Tiberium Sun, Red Alert 2 and Generals are all surprisingly playable and addictive
Not another First Decade! March 22, 2010 J. D. Waters (Cambridge. UK.) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this DVD in the hope that I could play Red Alert (1). I had previously bought The First Decade for XP but couldn't get it to work despite all the patches. The question was "would this be another flop like First Decade? Or could I play the old favourites again on my relatively modern computer and Vista."
The answer so far is a qualified YES. I could play both the first command and conquer game and Red Alert. But I couldn't play Tiberian Sun or Red Alert 2. However, when I loaded my original Tiberian Sun DVD it played perfectly as did Red Alert 2. I haven't tried the Generals yet, but I imagine they will work from the original DVD's as well. It seems that the Saga DVD prepares the ground for all the old games, and you can now play them on Vista.
