 Superior Graphics, 'Cool Explosions & Bright Pretty Colours' Are No Substitute for GAMEPLAY! November 16, 2009

Maybe I'm not the best person to review this game, or indeed, any game of any kind. After all, my collection is incredibly limited, and I only tend to play a game once every six months or so in order to unwind.
Technologically speaking, you could say that I'm a dinosaur, forever lagging five or ten years behind. Because at the end of the day, I'm only ever interested in what I actually want or need. I don't care about fashion or the latest trend, and I don't automatically leap to the conclusion that something is 'Superior' because it is 'New.'
I don't want or need 'Blue Ray' or 'Hi-Def,' an 'I-Pod' or a mobile phone which can take videos, edit them, add special effects and upload them on Youtube. And since I already know which games I actually 'Enjoy' playing, (very occasionally,) I have no interest in X-Box 360's or the latest high-budget game.
From the perspective of the 'Hard-Core Gamer' of course, I would assume that 'Tiberian Sun' and most of the other games which I enjoy would rank alongside 'Space Invaders' or 'Pong.' But having played some of the later games in the 'Command & Conquer' series, I think that 'Tiberian Sun' is ultimately superior because the enemies are more difficult to beat.
As I said before, I only play this game every now and again and I always play it the same way; selecting 'Skirmish Mode,' setting the AI level to maximum and attempting destroy my foes. So because the defensive weapons in this game are more powerful, I find it much more of a challenge.
'Red Alert 2' for example is always a severe let down because the computer opponents only ever try to 'Attack.' They barely make any attempts to defend their own bases, and so I always defeat them with ease.
"Offence May Win Battles, But Defence Will Win Wars."
So if in the end, you share my need for a real gaming 'Challenge,' then I would definitely recommend 'Tiberian Sun.'
In fact, the only note of caution I would raise is that unlike the majority of its successors, 'Tiberian Sun' does not give you the option to save a game in progress. So much like 'Jumanji,' "Do Not Start This Game Unless You Intend to Finish!" But in spite of this quibble, I will stick to this game unless there's another that actually challenges me.

Do not wast your money on this version of the game, the sold out software dramatically slows down the loading times, and even after several installations, it freezes on the main menu, not allowing me to get any further.
The online server is also down untill further notice so you cant even experience the best feature of the game
Dissapointing

Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun is still one of the best RTS Games I have ever played. Yes, it was hyped up more than deserved in magazine reviews and it was delayed for 2 years from it's first initial release date but most games are, at least good games are that have no bugs, glitches or limited gameplay. You get to play great games - every mission is a challenge and great fun with a story line. The storyline with all C&C Games make it what it what it is. This game has brilliant graphics too. I just wish Westwood Studios had made more games as good as this after Tiberiun Sun because Command and Conquer Generals and C&C Renegade were a bit of a let down for me but the Red Alert 2 is great, as is Yuri's revenge. In Tiberiun Sun you still have to decide which side you play evil v good - NOD v GDI and you still harvest Tiberium for credits and get to train advanced new military units and soldiers. Some of the machines, buildings and advanced tanks were never to be seen in the final game but this was down to the hype that was in the game reviews before the game had been released. I waited for this game several years and was not let down. Game expectations were high for me but I doubted some even though hype was enourmous. Electronic Arts Developer: Westwood

No other strategy games compare to this one, there are many I have played years later and none have matched this yet. I doubt any ever will. Yes I am a big C&C fan with good reason. New units and options bring new strategies to gameplay, after you have completed all missions you will be wanting more. This is one addictive game and great fun. C&C series did firestart RTS games off to a good start.

Good game.. I was a bit dissapointed when I bought this as I was expecting a lot more (the hype surrounding this when it was released a few years ago was a lot). However, once you start playing, the dissapointment vanishes.. The game is superb.

Tiberian Sun is one of the first of the Command & Conquer series but is no less challenging than subsequent C&C games. Since it is a relatively old PC game it does not demand a great deal from your PC and is an excellent introductory game to those not familiar with PC games. It is set on Earth and is played in the third person i.e. you command your forces from an elevated perspective.There are 16 missions to complete and each mission gets gradually more complex as the game progresses. If you fail to complete level 3 you cannot progress to level 4 and so on. A good tip here is to try each level on 'easy' before aiming for 'hard' as this will give you an excellent idea of what to expect in the more difficult levels. Most missions require you to build a base, amass an attack force then unleash its diabolical firepower on some very aggressive enemies. The soundtrack is eerie and atmospheric and helps sets the tone for each level. Many of the levels are genuinely challenging and you'll pull your hair out trying to figure out a strategy to get you through. Another good tip here is to save your game regularly so that you won't need to go back to the very beginning of a mission if you try a strategy that fails. Forces at your disposal range from armed human personnel to fighter bombers and if you're going to complete all 16 levels you'll need to use the lot! Games don't get much better than this.
