| Customer Reviews: Only for XP? HA! I can beat that... January 11, 2010 A. Shubbar 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
There are 4 OS' that I've tested this with (and all are compatiblen (somewhat))
Windows 98: I first used this on a Packard Bell, 512mb of RAM (random access memory), it worked (just).
Windows XP (32 bit): Moving up in the world I got a Dell Dimension, 1gb of RAM, it worked quite nicely!
Windows Vista (32 bit): Then I bought a Dell Studio 1735, 2gb of RAM (I'm starting to notice a pattern), easy, worked like a dream!
Windows 7 (64 bit): After a while I decided to, err, spec-up my Dell Studio, now we're working with 4gb of RAM (YEAH!!!), it worked, well, whatever's better than "worked like a dream" (I ran out of phrases, lol).
Now onto the gamne:
PROS:
# Easy installation and setup
# You never get bored, there's just so much to do*!!
# Easy to "pick up and play"
# Cheap
CONS:
# Very heavy requirements for best game-play
# *You really need the 2 add-on packs
# It's a massive game, give it time to install, 30 minutes for the game and the 2 add-on packs (on a computer where the OS install takes 20 minutes)

Get a good computer for this great game... August 15, 2007 M. Philip Stuckey (Uzes, France .) 6 out of 19 found this review helpful
I bought this absolutly amazing game because I had read loads of good reviews about it. I started to play it on my Dell inspiron 6000 Windows XP laptop and it worked fine for 2 days...on the second day however, it crashed, handing my pc a hardware deadlock that resulted in software rendering. To stop the software rendering I had to restart my computer and, against my will, uninstall the game I had waited months for to keep it from doing anything else to my laptop. I was devastated. I am now staring at it's cover, something I'll be doing until christmas when my parents are going to buy me and my ,also devastated, sister, a new pc.
By all means, it was, for the first day I actually managed to play it, a gaming god. The graphics, the gameplay, the amount of options and control you had over how the game acted, the way the coasters as well as other rides like the falling tower drop, which you could also adjust the hieght of, worked to perfection. The game is like nicotine as far as addictivity goes... I'm not a 24-hour-a-day-gaming sort of guy, I spend an hour maximum on my playstation daily. I guess I got the most out of the one day I could play it! I must have been on it a good 3-4 hours!.....but that's nothing compared to the waiting time ahead of me as I wait impatiently for christmas. What ever you do, DO NOT LISTEN TO AMAZON.CO.UK'S FACT THAT THIS DELUXE EDITION IS EXCLUSIVELY FOR WINDOWS XP, it isn't. On the back of the game box it says that it is compatible with windows XP/ME/1998/SE. It also says that you need a good 384MB of Ram with another 800MB of Ram for the expansion packs! You'll need a good 1,184MB of Ram! You also need a 64MB video card such as an ATI Radeon or GeForce 2 card which both cost around 70£ on amazon.co.uk if you don't already have them built into your computer! Put the instillation bills on top of that and your looking at a very expensive game. A DirectX sound card is needed as well, another 50-70£ if you don't have one.
Conclusion: A truly great game.Expansion packs are must haves. Good price on amazon.co.uk. Pain in the *** to start 'er up. Need alot more than what amazon.co.uk states. 7/10
With the right computer, its the best ride you'll ever take! June 22, 2007 Tom Cat © (Earth) 14 out of 20 found this review helpful
As a die-hard fan of the original RCT 1, I wondered if this thrid installment could offer a new way of playing the game. The thing about the first game was that it could be played on any PC is was that simple, yet I was understandly a little sceptical when remembering that this was a modern PC game - meaning more juice is needed. But if you don't take risks, you never know!
After a few attempts, the game 'finally' installed. Their seemed to be a problem with the 'Splash' disc, in that it wouldn't load up to install. A few hours later, particularly annoyeed, a popped the disc in, and the Install proccess started! I 'Googled' (that should be a word!) the problem, and found it was quite common, so my advice is that if you do have a problem, keep trying!
So, what about performance? This is afterall in the catergory of the likes of The Sims 2 - 3-D and needing lots of resources! The game does actually adjust its graphics settings in accordance to how it see's your computer - with 800mb virtual memory, 256 ATi intergrated graphics (not even a seperate card) and an Intel Celeron D cpu, the game rated my PC as 'High'. Very flattered! But I truly recommend your PC has over 512mb of RAM to achieve the best gameplay, along with a Pentium 4 (avoid Celeron D's!) processor. Whats more, the game lets you adjust graphics options to improve performance - turn off reflections, shadows, or change the texture slide bar, and you instantly notice changes. Its all about experimenting, and you just have to understand your not going to play this game smoothly without making small sacrafices. But upon pushing every option to the max, I can say for the small period I can actually play it, the game is truly beautiful... Also, somthing that will help performance is to simply turn off your Anti-virus/firewalls, which on my PC, takes about 40mb which can be used for the game!
And gameplay? Incredibe. Every single thing you could imagine being in a theme park is here, whether it be Passport booths, Photograph areas, but the most innative? Billboards! And you know what? You can even upload a picture from your computer and put it up their, crystal clear! And its so simple. In fact, its all simple, that is when you get used to certain aspects of gamepley. Track rides for example require a Tutorial or 2 to really get used to. But this game is all about patience. If people have slated this game, its purely because they haven't taken the time to get used to it.
Whats more, you have the 2 add on packs. These act as seperates modes within the game understandably, but are a real essential to get the most out of this game. With Splashed, you have a Water Park theme, meaning that you can create pool complezes, swimming pools, water rides, and more that all join onto you 'complex'. Build an inflatable's store outside the changing room's, and you'll be making hundreds of pounds as people flock to buy toys for use in the pool. The Wild expansion has a safari theme, which in the same way as Splashed uses complexes, you can create animal compounds! Perhaps one of the funniest, though no very practical things you can do is see what happens when you put a baby ostrich in with a Tiger...
Currently, I'm finding the Sandbox Mode the best part of the game, and have 'worked' (yep, they're my little projects!) on a number of parks that once start building up, look truly stunning, specially when you consider how the landscape can be changed to look like a typical park. The most excitement part? Opening it to the public! And everyone has a habit on my game of hopping on the Train to go from the shops near the entrance, all the way over to my Water Park Complex. You can even name it, and add stalls that sell blow-up toys that the people can use in the pools!
In fact, I think they've only missed out on one feature... you can't walk around the park in the eye-view of a guest! Disappointing, but the screenshot feature allows you to take pictures of your park to save those memories!
It's perhaps the sheer intelligence of the game which makes it so enjoyable. Guests start at the rides that are nearest to them before making their way around the park. If groups of people get lost, they run around trying to find each other. The people talk with so many phrases, from "Can we make out?" to "Oh you little devil!". The way they automatically catch transports to different locations of the park is terrific itself, and a joy to watch all these people flocking to get on your monorail, as it swings around all the landscape. Perhaps one of the most innotive features of the game is the ability to create Water, Laser, and Firework displays.. all in one if you wish! Whats more, you can even draw the design for your laser show. So, if you park has a logo, you can easily just draw it on screen, and watch it being projected out everywhere!
I think their are only 2 improvements (no problems) that I would suggest, though they are not vital. I think maybe Atari should have, seeming as this is now 3-D, created the option for bendy paths, perhaps with a free-form tool (like a pen!). The only other thing which is slightly more annoying is the fact that you have to build quite deep before your rollercoaster/ride actually goes underground, so you probably won't be tempted to create as many underground loops etc.
What more can I say? With a little patience, this will soon become addictive! Just make sure you computer can live up to it...
excitment rating 10!! May 29, 2007 Nicholas Needham (Glos,UK) 17 out of 21 found this review helpful
rct 1 was at home gathering dust and rct2 had bin and gone rct3
Wasn't 100% new (so they'd already had put all the expansion packs together and created this) but as I parted with my £20 note and received my penny change I realised Wow the graphics look good! WOW they have tons of coasters! And fireworks you can't be serious. I was ecstatic when I got home, id always loved the original RCT but it was old school now. I wasn't sure what years of experience by RCT designers would have created but I was in for a surprise. As my first coaster zoomed down a huge slope it was so realistic I really felt excited and adrenaline pumped round my body I sighed with amazement wow
The only real flaw is the type of games available sand box or career but I want something in between (like zoo tycoons challenge game)with money and ,at the beginning ,a few roller coaster but apart from that it is amazing and id recommend the expansion packs there is nothing like animals, rollercoaster's and a water park
